Valmiera Drama theatre

  • founded in 1923 as a professional repertoire theatre
  • currently lead by Board member Mrs Evita Ašeradena
  • today one of the most modern playhouses in Latvia with 4 scenes and more than 400 seats for audience in the Large hall
  • has a great cafe „Theatre Wine Studio” with delicious house-made cakes and other specialities
  • performances on tour in other theatres in Latvia
  • the only winner of the Rudolph Blaumanis award – bronze statuette of Rudolph Blaumanis so far (the international theatre festival of Rudolph Blaumanis organized every three years since 1999
  • 28 staff actors and 15 contractor actors
  • directors of different generations – Fēlikss Deičs, Varis Brasla, Viesturs Meikšāns from Latvia and abroad – Andres Leppik (Estonia), Frank Hoil (Germany)
  • since 1996 regularly nominated for Annual Latvian Theatre Awards (more than 66 nominations and 22 awards won in the last decade)

Valmiera Culture centre

  • founded in 1966
  • just celebrated 50 year anniversary
  • seat for 18 amateur collectives (national dance, choirs, senior choir, ensemble, folk art groups etc.)
  • organizer of cultural events in the city

Valmiera Museum

  • Founded in 1959
  • located in the historical centre of Valmiera city
  • occupies 8 buildings in total
  • Valmiera castle – built as the fortification of Livonian Order; today only ruins of the defensive walls and cellar walls of the north-western building – uncovered during the archeological excavations, including a fragment of a catacomb
  • regular art exhibitions of local artists as well as the best artists from Latvia and abroad
  • tradition group „Griezes” – ancient Latvian traditions, educational programmes for pupils, locals and tourists
