Russian Ambassador visits LatviaPrint
On 23rd of November Evgeny Lukyanov the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Latvia had an official visit in Valmiera to discuss the co-operation between municipalities of Valmiera and the Russian Federation in the fields of culture, education, business and other fields as well as potential solutions for reorganizing Valmiera memorial to the soldiers who died in World War II.
The Ambassador started his visit with a meeting at Valmiera municipality hosted by mayor of Valmiera Janis Baiks, deputy mayor of Valmiera Ricards Gailums and director of Valmiera 2nd Secondary school Andrejs Gluhovs where they presented the guests with Valmiera achievements in city development and important future challenges. Valmiera long-standing cooperation with Pskov municipality in Russia and Russian Chamber of Commerce was also discussed. The Ambassador also received an invitation to next years Maslenica event next at Valmiera 2nd Secondary school.
During the visit the Ambassador highlighted that Valmiera is great city that attracts with its great development, orderliness and ambitious future plans. As the Ambassador emphasized that it is not a big surprise that more and more people as choosing Valmiera as their home city and it’s a very logical step from the municipality to build more and more new rental apartment houses for the people to live in.
At the end of official visit the Ambassador visited the memorial and promoted the idea to divide memorials rearrangement in three stages till 2020.
